Lawyers protest across country, Shangla as SJC hears references against senior judges

As the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) heard the references against Justice Qazi Faez Isa of the Supreme Court and Justice Karim Khan Agha of the Sindh High Court on Friday, a large number of lawyers in Shangla and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa staged protest.

The five-member SJC comprising Chief Justice of Pakistan Asif Saeed Khosa, Justice Gulzar Ahmed, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed, Sindh High Court Chief Justice Ahmed Ali M. Shaikh and Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Waqar Ahmed Seth heard the references against Justices Isa and Agha for allegedly possessing properties in the United Kingdom.

Members of the district bar association Shangla blocked Bisham-Swat road at Alpuri chowk and staged protest demonstration against the references. They chanted slogans against what they described as the punishment of Justice Isa for his stance.

The protest was called by the Pakistan bar council across the country.
The lawyers while chanting slogans against the government took to the streets and crossing different streets reached Alpuri chowk and gathered there.
The district bar association Shangla president Fayaz Ahmed Khan, member executive body KP bar council Haq Nawaz Khan, Sultan Room, Muhammad Naeem Khan, Majidullah Khan, Shah Erani, Shah Sawood, Sardar Ali Khan, Waqif Shah and Suliman Shah and other spoke on the occasion.

They said that the government should withdraw the alleged references, submitted against justice Qazi Faez Esa of the Supreme court and and justice Karim Khan Agha of the Sindh High Court.
They said, the reference are comprising on dishonesty and made against the both judges over giving verdict in Faiz Abad sit-in and the government is taking revenge from the judges of the sit-in verdict.
The Shangla lawyers had observed boycott of the court proceedings too.
The protest demonstrations were held across the country in this connection where lawyers boycotted from the courts.
