Nature lovers from all over the country, especially from hot areas have been rushing towards the northern areas of Pakistan for spending their holidays in fresh air and cold weather and to witness the beauty of nature, lush green meadows, rivers, singing waterfalls, thick forests and other heart touching attractions.
This year the tourists visiting Swat, Shangla, Dir, Chitral, Naran Kaghan, Gilgit and Baltistan and surrounding regions in large number, as the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa tourism minister has claimed that millions of tourists in the history have visited KP’s tourists destinations during Eid holidays.
But the worst and shabby face, a class of our society has intended to destroy the tourism instead of boosting it.Unfortunately that class is “public transports”.
I have noticed that local transporters overcharging tourists, misbehaving them and also local commuters faced this problem. The transporters in Mingora and other bus stands in Swat seated extra passengers and also receiving fares on their own. They were and are still demanding double of the original fare from passengers, not only local people but also tourists. Importantly, other than increased fares, they are compelling the passengers to adjust 3 people on the seats having a capicity of 2.
And if someone resists, then their response is “please leave the seat”.
Tourists say that though the problem has been reported to the head staff of bus station but they are coming up with an excuse of shortage of vehicles.
What I believe that at such important situations, the local management, particularly RTA must be vigilant and active enough to monitor these issues and take action against the violators and they should facilitate the tourists as they are our guests and promoting tourism is a sole way with the people this frequent affected region to regain its value, tourism, business.
