SHANGLA: A water testing laboratory has been established in Shangla district.

Sub-divisional officer, public health engineering department, Nisar Ahmed Khan told Dawn on Monday that on the special request of the department, NGO Islamic Relief had set up the water testing laboratory in Alpuri. He said earlier they had to send water samples for testing to a laboratory in Peshawar.

The official said initially they would not charge the public for testing drinking water samples because the Islami Relief had provided the kits, chemicals and other equipment for two years, but later they would receive payment for the tests.

Mr Ahmed said the facility was for all the people of Shangla and it was responsibility of every citizen to collect samples of drinking water in their respective areas, even of the springs, and bring them to public health office in Alpuri for testing.
