Coronavirus cases being emerged in Shangla sub-jail

SHANGLA: The sub-jail in Shangla district is at risk of coronavirus cases spread as three positive cases reported from it so far but a single hall jail has no capacity to isolate inmates. The single hall prison is yet to receive funds since it is opening six months ago.

Sources in the sub-jail Bisham, Shangla informed The Northern Post that the prison has a single hall for inmates where they had to keep inmates and lack of isolation cells and there was no section for women and children.

He said, an inmate was fallen ill a week ago and they had not the medical facility at the jail so the doctor invited to the prison and he had taken a sample from the ailing inmate which later resulted positive since then the cases on the rise.

“We have not been received any type of budget since the jail open in February this year how we could deal with such situations we are experiencing,” Source said.

He said, as all the inmates in the jail lived in a single hall, they afraid the virus contracted to all the prisoners and the government did nothing yet to protect even the staff lives from the virus and nor expanding the jail although Shangla has over 100 inmates.

The Tehsil Municipal Administration’s staff had visited the jail and washed it with disinfectant spray, however, they kept the covid-19 infected inmates in the guest’s meeting room.

The jail staff is now not keeping inmates due to fear of covid-19 further spread.

Shangla district recoveries from covid-19 have surpassed the 100 and 62 cases are active in out of 194 confirmed cases.
