SHANGLA: Flash floods and torrential rain hit Shangla villages blocking major roads and destroying houses, standing corn crops and water supply schemes in upper parts of the district here on Monday night.
Javid Khan, tehsil councilor in Damorai told Dawn that heavy rain coupled with hailstorm was received the area which caused flash floods, landslides, and partially damaged houses.
He said, main Shahpur-Ajmir road remained blocked in Damorai and traffic was suspended for 16 hours, while houses along the streams badly affected by the floods water.
Sardar Muhammad Khan, another local, said that a mosque, 9 houses and cultivated lands were affected in results of flash floods and also damaged water supply schemes of village Mor, Bhatobat, Umar Farooq village, Zara village, Asharai Maidan, Bar cham village and two major schemes of proper Damorai village, besides it standing crops in hilly areas were completely destroyed by the torrential rains and hailstorm.
He said due to blockade of road school going students, commuters faced severe difficulties while crossing the rubles blockade and faced water shortage owing damage to water supply schemes.
He said, neither the administration nor elected figures visited the sites and their ignorance forced the locals to open the road for light traffic on self-help basis.
Main Bisham-Swat road was blocked in Karora sliding site due to which hundreds of vehicles were stuck on both sides and passengers faced hardships.
The rain was received in Bisham, Damorai, Pir Khana, Ajmir, Shahpur, Bely baba, Dehrai, Chakesar, and other areas and the weather turned cold.
Meanwhile, district administration dispatched heavy machinery for clearing blocked roads of the district and to begin rehabilitation work.
