ECNEC approves 100MW solar power plant for Gilgit-Baltistan

Project to provide electricity to 13 regions in phases; Rs. 24.96 billion budget allocated

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved the project for a 100MW solar photovoltaic power Plant in Gilgit-Baltistan after a two-day meeting.

Following ECNEC approval, work on this project will commence. The Prime Minister announced in his recent visit to Gilgit-Baltistan that ECNIC will soon approve the 100MW power plant project of Gilgit-Baltistan.

The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) has already approved the project. In this project, the beneficiary will be provided to the areas of Astor, Dariel, Tanger, Diamar, Ghanche, Ghazar, Gilgit, Hunza, Ashkoman, Nagar, Rondo, Skardu, and Shagar.

In the first phase, 18,958 MW of electricity will be provided to the Sakardu district.

In the second phase, Hunza, Gilgit, and Diamer will be provided 6,005 MW, 28,013 MW, and 13,126 MW of electricity, respectively.

In the third phase, other districts will be provided with 16,096 MW of electricity.

Government institutions and hospitals will also be provided with off-the-grid electricity, amounting to up to 18,162 MW.

This project is expected to be completed within three years, and a budget of 24,956 million rupees will be required.
