
The Pakistan Airport Authority (PAA) has officially started the upgradation project of Sakardu International Airport. A project launch meeting was held at local resort of Sakardu.
The meeting was attented by key stakeholders, including government officials, military representatives, and international consultants. Swizerland Company Interplane and local parties presented their strategy for the development of airport. Director Planning and Development of Pakistan Airport Authority (PAA), Additional Director of Project Monitoring, Project Director and Airport Manager and other senior officials attended the meeting. Local Goverment, Military Representatives and other stake holders were also present at the meeting.
According to the PAA, the design consultancy for the upgradation will cost 180 million rupees. Once the design and PC1 (Project Concept-1) are finalized, full-scale construction is expected to begin within a year. All stakeholders have pledged their support to ensure the project’s timely completion.

Participants of the meeting have also praised the project of Pakistan Airports Authority to transform Sakardu into an international hub of tourism. They have also acknowledged PIA efforts to strengthen regional air connectivity and boosting the local economy.
The PAA stated that the upgraded Skardu International Airport will serve as a new gateway for tourism and business, further integrating Gilgit-Baltistan into global travel and trade networks.
