The Ministry of Housing & Works has issued a formal notification abolishing 709 vacant posts in the Pakistan Public Works Department (Pak PWD) as part of the federal government’s rightsizing initiative. The decision follows a Federal Cabinet approval and recommendations from a High-Powered Committee. Secretary Housing & Works, using delegated financial management powers, declared 889 posts as dying and permanently abolished 709 long-vacant positions.
The abolished roles include Architect, Assistant Architect, Assistant Financial Advisor, Deputy Assistant Director (Horticulture), Sports Officer, Assistant Librarian, Assistant Private Secretary, Senior Draftsman, Upper Division Clerk, Junior Clerk, Junior Draftsman, Computer Operator, Model Maker, Office Assistant, Naib Qasid, Farash, and Chowkidar. Most of these positions were deemed unnecessary due to digitalization, and their regular appointments have now been officially terminated. This move aims to streamline operations and reduce redundancy in the government sector.
