The oldest pylons of the electricity supply are causing disruption of electricity in Shangla as most of the pylons, its wooden crosses (overlaps) and high transmission lines are rusted and damaged.
The Shangla district Bisham was lightened with the electricity in early 90s since then the pylons, crosses, transmission lines and its fittings are not changed and that have been turned rusted, damaged and always caused disruption of power supply to the region.
Sources in the Peshawar Electric Supply Company, Pesco, told that 95 percent of crossings of the pylons, similarly the decades old pylons, transmission lines and its other equipment were in severely poor condition and also a risk for the local population of the area.
They said when strong winds blown in the Bisham city and other parts of the district they pylons, transmission lines and crossings fell down and caused mishaps.
Syed Sajjad Zeb, an elder, said they severally informed the concerned authorities of the Pesco and local administration about the high risk of the rusted, damaged pylons and hanging high transmission lines but except assurances nothing done practically.
“I never seen any pylon or crossing changed by the Pesco but still the power supply running in the oldest transmission lines although its wooden crossings are completely damaged and transmission lines handing in air,” He said.
Gul Dad Khan, general secretory trade union, Bisham, said there was nor proper mechanism for power supply and pylons and its transmission lines which never changed since the power supply started to Bisham and its suburbs.
He said they highlighted the issue many times in the different platforms but that went deaf ears of the Pesco and still the consumers often faced problems particularly disruption of power supply.
Sharafat Ali, a social activist, said during the winter season when strong winds blown continuously for months and the these rough pylons fell down because of their condition and then Pesco workers took days in restoration of power supply to the area.
He said if these rusted damaged pylons and its crossings etc were not changed it could be caused of untoward incidents and could took precious lives.
Rehmat Wali, an official in the Pesco sub-division Bisham when contacted he told The Northern Post that they had been submitted the demand of material, pylons and he was hopeful that his department would take the initiative to change the pylons, crossings and old transmission lines for smooth power supply and to protect the public lives.
