SHANGLA: Residents of polio-affected area pledged to help polio workers team in vaccinating children under age of 5 in Dedal Kamach area of Shangla where a polio case was surfaced two months ago.
Local residents took out an awareness rally while ensuring the health department of back support and creating awareness among the public.
“We have arranged the walk to create awareness among the public for meant to eliminate polio from the area as a case was detected in our area which has created panic among the local community,” Doctor Ibadullah, social activist, said, who led the walk.
He said they wanted to protect our children’s lives and health for which polio vaccination was essential and upcoming polio drive going to start from August, 26, local people would actively participate in the drive.
Attaullah Khan, another local, said, that in upcoming polio campaign lady teachers would also take part as polio team members which would help in making the drive successful.
Meanwhile, a final readiness meeting was held on Friday in the chairmanship of additional deputy commissioner Maqbool Hussain, where DHO Shangla, EPI coordinator Wajid Ali and others were present.
The EPI coordinator briefed the ADC and other staff about the preparing for upcoming polio vaccination drive.
EPI coordinator Mr Wajid Ali, informed the officials that 170,000 children under the age of 5, to be vaccinated in the upcoming drive.
Doctor Wajid said that teams had been finalised and 892 teams formed for the four days activity, while 278 supervisors would monitor the vaccination drive.
He said, vaccines and other materials for the campaign were also reached to the office and would be dispatched to respective centers before the day first of drive.
Mr Ali added that it is the second phase of case response anti-polio campaign in view of surfacing polio case in Dedal Kamach area of Shangla and five cases in nighbour district Torghar.
He said this time lady teachers of the government schools would also take part in the drive as team members and supervisors meant to successful polio drive.
