Lady health workers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa observed a strike across the province on Wednesday protesting against the murder of their colleague in North Waziristan and harassing the other one in Bannu area of the southern part of KP during the ongoing anti-polio campaign.
The strike was called by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lady health workers association across the province, observed in almost every district including Shangla where LHWs had worn black armbands to record their protest against the murder of their colleague Nahida Bibi who was shot dead at North Waziristan during the anti-polio campaign.
The provincial president of LHWs Ayesha told The Northern Post that the government calls LHWs for every issue and every campaign but it had less interest in their security, adding that she had been broken with the news of the murder of her colleague Waziristan.
She said the children’s lives were more important to them than their own but at least government should protect their lives, also condemned the use of words for the martyred LHW as killed although she was martyred in the line of duty.
Other provincial leadership of the LHWs, Almin and Shahid Zada, president LHWs association Shangla chapter, lady health supervisors, tehsil Bisham, Razia bibi, Roqia, Alpuri, Yasmin of Kana, Azeema, Shahida, Razia, Shahad of Puran, Nooren of Chakesar, Fazilat of Lilonai, Amia Alam of Alpuri and lady health workers, Rawasia Damorai, Shamim Sultan, Taj Nisa Dandai, Fauzia Gunangar, Nelum Rehman, Maira, Halima and Maryam of Shang told reporters after a meeting held at Alpuri.
They said, first they strongly condemned the word was being used for the martyred LHWs as killed instead of martyred because many of their colleague’s lives had been taken in the line of duty particularly during the anti-polio drives.
Roqia LHS, said that killing of LHWs during the anti-polio campaign was a certain failure of the security agencies as it has become a routine killing of LHWs in every anti-polio campaign and despite the frequent incidents their lives could not be protected.
LHW Nelum Rehman, said she questions the law enforcement agencies of KP how in the broad daylight LHWs were being killed in the province why their lives not protected, why the media used headlines as killed instead of martyred.
She urged the KP’s government to immediately announce martyred package for the slain LHW and also register cases against the accused of both incidents and apprehend them sternly.
Shangla LHWs also announced that they would hold a protest demonstration after the current anti-polio campaign.
