Fact-check; Babusar accident viral video, Incident occurred in July 2022

Claim: Eight to ten people died in a road accident at Babusar top when a passenger van, heading towards Chilas Diamer fell into a ravine. Video Link

A social media user Umar Farooq Farooqi from Gilgit had shared a video of an accident with caption that 8-10 passengers died in the accident and rescue efforts are underway, the video he later deleted, however it had gone viral very quickly as shared by many social media users, particularly on Facebook.

We checked the video through different search tools for verification including Tineye, Google reverse image and then used manual skills and found the account of Haji Ghafoor Ahmad which has confirmed the video originality and its time of uploading.
Virality: It was re-shared by a friend of Haji Ghafoor Ahmad (Saeed Bhati) on Monday morning and thus it went viral.

The Northern Post fact-check team also reached out the deputy commissioner, Diamer, Capt (R) Arif Ahmad who said the video was old of July 2022.
The same stated by the Rescue 1122 spokesperson, Shaukat Riaz that a fake news about a van accident was published by social media users, Umar Farooq and Voice of Karakoram.
Conclusion: The video re-shared and went viral across social media but was old and captured in July, 14, 2022.
