The Shangla district notables have formed a committee for raising voice for local issues, particularly related to power supply from locally built hydropower projects.
A jirga was called at a private school in Karora the other day, presided over by Fatih Muhammad Khan and it was attended by notables from all tehsils of the district.
“The formation of the committee is meant to take up the current and longstanding issues with the authorities concerned at all levels,” Said Gulab Shahpuri, a notable from Shahpur.
He said the committee would meet ministers concerned and chief minister as well regarding the local’s problems.
Mr Shahpuri, said in the first assignment today on Sunday the committee had been assigned to start work on the charter of demand set for the 11.8 Megawatt Karora Hydropower Project in which power supply for the locals was among the demands.
He said a writ-petition would also be submitted in the court against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organisation Pedo as it was reluctant from the agreement its officials signed with the local elders in 2017 when work on the project was initiated.
Fatih Muhamamd Khan, selected as chairman for the committee, said they wanted implementation of the agreement and rights are given to Kohistan people in their projects by Wapda.
He said their movement would continue unless all their demands were not accepted by the government.
The newly formed committee is comprising on Fatih Muhammad Khan from Shahpur as Chairman, Shujat Ali Khan from Martung tehsil and Sarfaraz Khan as Spokesperson and the 9 other elders are chosen as members of the committee.
