Commuters troubled as landslides block roads in Shangla

SHANGLA: Martung to Chakesar road blocked at several points due to heavy landslides in heavy rainfall lashed in Shangla on Tuesday night suspending traffic over the route.

Heavy rainfall received Shangla district which caused blockade of roads in some parts of the district and created problems for the commuters.

Abdul Maula, resident of Puran told The Northern Post that a road links Martung and Puran with Chakesar was blocked at four points due to heavy landslide and boulders lied on the road and in one place the road slipped down.

He said he had to go Martung but returned back due to blockade of road, however, local heavy vehicle drivers were attempting to cross the blockade by risking their own and passengers’ lives.

He said, the ruble had also been laying on the Towa-Chakesar for the last a month and yet to be removed despite several complaints by the local people to the administration.

Akbar Hussain former district councilor, Martung, said neither MPA nor administration interested in resolving the Martung issues now the blockade over the road would remain to lay for months which may cause traffic accidents.

“I appeal the district and tehsil administrations to get clear the road from landslides and open for smooth traffic for making the public travel easy and safe,” He said and added that the road was being used by the people of the different villages to reach their destinations but now they compelled on to use alternative long-distance routes or walk.

They demanded the administration to remove the landslides rubles from the road and reopen for the traffic.
