Pakistan Red crescent Society inaugurated a branch and warehouse in Shangla, which is built with the financial support of German Red Cross for long term services to ensure emergency response on time.
The inaugural ceremony was held in Lilonai Alpuri where Chaimran PRCS Lieutenant general Hamid Khan was the chief guest, head of office of the German Red Cross Alexander Pforte, Deputy Commissioner Shangla, Imran Hussain Ranjha, General secretory PRCS Shanlga, Hasnain Fawad, local notables and PRCS volunteers attended the ceremony.
While addressing the ceremony, lieutenant general Hamid Khan, said Shangla is among the disaster risk districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and PRCS permanent branch was essential for it.
He said, the German Red Cross supported PRCS to build the branch in Shangla and it will support it till 2020 in different projects.
“We have to keep the branches operational all the time and make them self sustainable, the guest house inside the branch is one of the source for generating revenue and in future they could run it through it self revenue,” the PRCS Chairman, said.
“This construction site is another great example we contributed fund to build it and it is an excellent example of the joint partnership, we also contribute to it to install solar panel in it and to enlighten it,” Allexander Pforte, said.
He said after this permanent building of PRCS in Shangla the local people will be able to get first aid training and in case of emergency of natural disasters it would provide emergency relief.
He urged the local youth to come forward and join PRCS as volunteers, support and play their due role in helping the humanity.
Deputy Commissioner Shangla, said that the PRCS Shangla will help the local people in future and the warehouse where packages will be available for over 400 families round the clock as emergency relief.
He said, he has decided to generate revenue for PRCS through miner collection, 10-20 rupees as donation to collect from applicants of domicile, land registration and school admission etc.
The DC on the occasion also requested the head of office of the German Red cross to donate 50 safety vests for passengers travel in Indus river in Martung tehsil where a tragic boat capsizing incident had taken place two months ago and several people were drowned, however the Red Cross representative made the promise that he will do his best to provide the vests.
Jamal Hasnain Fawad, secretory PRCS Shangla, said that the construction of building costed Rs 18 million which is comprised on offices, warehouse, training hall and guest house.
“We arranged trainings for our volunteers on first aid, health, computer, planning evaluation and management and they are our backbone and always reached for helping survivors in case of disasters and incidents,” He added.
