SHANGLA: Additional deputy commissioner, Shangla, Maqbool Hussain has urged the traders and general public to use biodegradable shopping bags and avoid use of polythene bags that posed severe threats to the environment.

An awareness walk followed by a ceremony regarding introduction of biodegradable shopping bags was held on Thursday at Alpuri Bazaar. Assistant commissioners of Alpuri and Puran, TMO Alpuri Fazal Rabi, leaders of bazaar associations, traders and local people attended the event and participated in the walk.

The district administration on this occasion introduced biodegradable and reusable fabric shopping bags and distributed them among shopkeepers and local people.
Mr Hussain urged the participants, particularly shopkeepers, to use biodegradable shopping bags in future and avoid use of polythene bags, which was the main cause of environmental degradation.

Trade union leaders on the occasion assured their cooperation to the administration to end the use of polythene bags.
