Public holiday to facilitate preparations for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations on August 14.

ISLAMABAD: (August 12, 2025) The federal capital’s administration on Tuesday declared August 13, 2025, as a public holiday to facilitate preparations for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations on August 14.

According to an official notification issued today, the decision was taken to ensure smooth arrangements and heightened security ahead of Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day. The holiday will apply to all government offices, educational institutions, and most private sector entities within Islamabad Capital Territory.

City authorities have already ramped up efforts to decorate public buildings with national flags, lights, and banners, while full-dress rehearsals are underway for the central flag-hoisting ceremony scheduled at D-Chowk.

A senior official from the Islamabad Capital Administration stated, “The holiday will allow security personnel, civic agencies, and cultural organisers to finalise preparations without operational disruptions. We expect record participation in this year’s events.”

Citizens are advised to avoid unnecessary travel in key areas around the Red Zone, as road closures and security checkpoints will be enforced beginning Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Islamabad Police have issued a joint plan to manage traffic flow, security protocols, and emergency services during the Independence Day events.
