Jirga asks for durable peace in Shangla

Speakers at a grand Jirga on Tuesday for peace urged the law enforcement agencies to play their due role in maintaining durable peace in the district and immediately deploy the police at those check posts vacated by the police and allegedly welcoming to terrorists who carry out attacks in broad daylight.

The grand Jirga was called by the Puran tehsil Eslahi Committee and its chairman, Noor Mohammad chaired the Jirga and it was attended by people from different walk of life from tehsil Puran, tehsil Martung and tehsil Makhozi.

Noor Muhamad, Rehmanullah, Hanif Ur Rehman, Zakir, Dyan Ghafar, Azeem Syed, Fakhr Alam, Amani Mulk, Khalid Khan, Ayaz Khan, Puran bar association’s president, Ashraf Ali, sub-divisional police officer, Shaheen Shah, SHO Bakht Zeb and others addressed the peace Jirga held at police station mosque in Aloch, the tehsil headquarters, Puran.

Speakers at the Jirga criticized the district police and military for their failure in maintaining peace in the district and current surge in the terror attacks, particularly vacating the police check posts of the district which according to them was meant to welcome terrorists for successfully carrying out their criminal activities.

They urged the participants to ask people in their respective villages to must inquire strangers in their neighborhoods and keep a watch on them as it was the only way of restoration peace in the district.

The notables while recalling the recent terror attack at Muslim Kandaw in Puran where a police assistant sub-inspector was injured, said that it was alarming and irony that police vacated the prominent check posts in the district which caused surge in terror attacks.

Noor Mohammad claimed that the police vacated tourist destination Yakhtangay check post, similarly Jambal Check Post, Muslim Kandaw and Towa which were more prone to criminal attacks.

“It is the failure of DPO Shangla who decided to vacate the checkposts without taking the local people onboard. It is like welcoming the terrorists to attack their check posts and kill the local police,” Noor Mohammad said.

He said if police heads were performing their duties with dedication and commitments, no one could dare to carry out terrorist activities in the district and the recent attack at Muslim Kandaw had exposed the police and intelligence personals performance as the attack carried out in broad daylight and terrorists fled the scene, it was a big question mark.

Rahmanullah Khan, local elder, who is district coordinator of Pashtun Tahafuz Movement, said people in foreign countries come to streets to demand their rights, development but in Pakistan they were forced to protest for living, peace.

Rahmanullah Khan on the occasion passed a resolution of 22 point charter of demands of PTM raised in Khyber district during a Jirga the other day, which they unanimously passed from the platform of Puran Eslahi Committee.

Javid Ali said the DPO Shangla should come to the Jirga and hold a meeting with the local elders and answer them about the terrorist attacks and law and order situation, why he was failed in maintaining peace in the district.

The speakers also asked the police about the FIR of Muslim Kandaw incident to which the SDPO assured the grand Jirga that FIR copy would be shared with them and vowed that by keeping a close liaison with the public police would play their role in maintenance of peace and those check posts vacated would be opened where police would be deployed within a day or two.
