A 16-year-old boy has been arrested for the rape and murder of a 5-year-old girl in the Mina area of Mamund Tehsil, Bajaur. The incident, which occurred recently, sparked outrage among locals. According to the post-mortem report, the accused raped the minor, strangled her to death, and later threw stones at her body.
District Police Officer (DPO) Bajaur, Waqas Rafiq, stated during a press conference that the suspect was a close relative of the victim and during investigation confessed to the crime. The suspect lured the girl with the promise of snacks before committing the terrible act. Forensic evidence, including the suspect’s mobile phone containing explicit videos, has been sent for further analysis.
DPO Waqas Rafiq praised the local community for their cooperation in the arrest, which was made within 12 hours of the crime. He also highlighted that this is the second case in Bajaur, where police previously arrested a suspect in the murder of a 7-year-old boy within 24 hours.
Senior journalist Hanifullah from Bajaur clarified that the victim was 5 years old, contrary to social media reports claiming she was 12. He confirmed that the suspect who is also a minor, killed the girl out of fear of being identified after the assault.
Investigations are ongoing, and further legal proceedings will follow.
