“Not the people’s job to tell me what to do,” says Atif Aslam

Singer Atif Aslam faced criticism for performing live in a musical show just a day after his father’s death. In response to this criticism, he said, “It’s not the people’s job to tell me what to do?”

Atif Aslam’s father passed away on August 12, 2025, after a prolonged illness, and the singer fulfilled his professional responsibilities live at an event organized by the Sindh Government on August 13, 2025, in celebration of Independence Day and Marqa-e Haq.

He was praised for performing in a musical show the day after his father’s death; however, he was also criticized by many people for this action.

Now, the singer, while responding to the criticism, told, after a month, that “It is not his job to tell people what to do and what not to do; likewise, people also do not have the right to tell him what he should do and what he should not.”

Atif Aslam gave an interview to an Indian journalist, Shehryar Faridoon, in which he also talked about the criticism for performing a day after his father’s death.

He said that many people criticized him, and he listened to almost all those people.

According to him, everyone was running their channels and criticizing him because a close relative had died at his home, and the next day, he had to perform.

Singer said that it is not his duty to respond to people who criticize him; that’s why he did not respond to anyone.

Atif Aslam said that he cannot make a relationship with all people around the world, nor can he beg everyone not to talk or discuss him.

He justified that people who are criticizing him are doing their own job, and he is doing his, and answering critiques is not his job.

Singer also said that people who criticize him do not tell him what he should do and what not. According to him, he is a singer and makes music, and performing is his work.
