Government has issued weekly significant weather outlook for rivers' catchments on Monday

The government of Pakistan has issued a heavy rain alert and a warning of possible flooding in parts of Punjab province from August 26 to September 25.

In a weekly significant weather outlook for rivers’ catchments notification, it said that there are chances of widespread thunderstorms, rain with scattered heavy rain in upper catchments’ rivers, Sutlej, Ravi and Chenab, with Lahore and Gujranwala, Gujarat divisions, during the next 48 hours.

According to the warning notification, a very high flood is also likely in the Punjab rivers in the next 48 hours.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast hot and humid weather across parts of the country on Monday, with heavy rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms likely to hit Northeast Punjab province and Kashmir by evening and night.

According to the latest weather advisory, rain with gusty winds and thunderstorms is also expected at isolated locations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Southeast Sindh, and east of Balochistan.

Forecast for Tuesday

The PMD predicts similar weather conditions on Tuesday, with widespread rain and thunderstorms expected again in Northeast Punjab and Kashmir, and scattered showers likely in the upper regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Southeast Sindh, and East Balochistan.

Meanwhile, hot and humid weather will persist in the southern and central parts of the country during the period.

The last 24 hours brought rain with gusty winds and thundershowers to parts of Upper Sindh, Northeast Punjab, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and Sibi. Other regions experienced humid and hot weather.

Public Advisory

Authorities advise residents in Northeast Punjab and Kashmir to stay alert for possible urban flooding, especially during evening and night hours. It noted that commuters should exercise caution due to slippery roads and low visibility caused by intense rainfall.
