Pakistan must stop forced returns of Afghan refugees, says JAC-R

Joint action committee demands end to forced returns, urges refugee policy and international solidarity

The Joint Action Committee for Refugees (JAC-R) has released a Solidarity Statement calling on the Government of Pakistan to immediately stop the deportation of over 3 million Afghan refugees, including 1.3 million Proof of Registration (PoR) card holders. Since September 2023, over 1.2 million Afghans have been forcibly returned to Taliban-controlled Afghanistan, facing severe risks to their safety and livelihoods, in violation of international human rights law, including the principle of non-refoulement. The statement, available at Refugee Solidarity Statement – Stop the Deportations, Establish a Refugee Policy! and demand an end to forced deportations, extended protections for all Afghan refugees, including PoR card holders, Afghan Citizen Card holders, and undocumented individuals, and the adoption of a national refugee law. JAC-R invites individuals and organizations worldwide to endorse the statement and amplify its message using #StopDeportations and #SignForAfghanRefugees.
