Govt imposes ban on sale and purchase of property in Kalash

Notification has been issued in this regard on Friday

The District Administration, Chitral, on Friday imposed a ban on the sale and purchase of properties in the historic Kalash valley of Chitral to protect local culture.
The Lower Chitral Deputy Commissioner, Muhammad Hashim Azeem, issued an order in this regard banning the sale and purchase of properties in the Kalash valley to non-locals.
It said the ban had been imposed on land purchase and sale in Bumburet, Rumbur and Birir valleys to protect the indigenous Kalash culture.
According to an order issued by Muhammad Hashim Azeem, Deputy Commissioner/District Magistrate Lower Chitral, a complete ban has been imposed on the purchase and sale of land by non-locals in Bamboreit, Rambor and Barir valleys under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
This move is part of the provincial government’s commitment to protect Kalash culture and promote tourism in the area.

The purchase of land by non-locals was posing a threat to Kalash culture, given that this decision has been taken.
This order is effective immediately and will remain in force for one month. Violators will be prosecuted under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
