PDMA issues advisory for KP intense heat from June 7-12

Temperatures to rise 5-7°C above normal, public urged to take precautions against heatstroke and dust storms

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a heatwave advisory, warning of extreme temperatures in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa between June 7 and 12. Daytime temperatures are expected to soar 5 to 7 degrees Celsius above normal, particularly during Eid, with southern and central regions likely to bear the brunt of the scorching heat.

Authorities have alerted all district administrations to prepare for the rising mercury, which may also trigger dust storms and strong winds. The PDMA has cautioned that dry conditions could increase the risk of heatstroke, water shortages, and faster glacier melting in upper areas.

Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary sun exposure, stay hydrated, and limit outdoor activities—especially between 10 AM and 5 PM. Elderly individuals and children are at higher risk and should take extra precautions. Farmers have been urged to protect livestock and crops during harvesting, while travelers are reminded to check vehicle water levels and tire pressure before trips.

Emergency services, including health teams and rescue departments, remain on high alert, with heatstroke response centers activated. The PDMA’s Emergency Operations Center is fully operational, and the public can report emergencies via helpline 1700.

An awareness campaign is underway to keep citizens informed about the heatwave risks as authorities monitor the situation closely.
