
During a news conference addressing the murder of TikTok star Sana Yousaf, Inspector General of Islamabad Police, Sayed Ali Nasir, announced that the suspect in the case has been arrested. The suspect allegedly committed the crime after Sana rejected his proposal for friendship.
At the conference held on Tuesday evening, IG Nasir stated, “We have analyzed footage from 113 CCTV cameras, conducted 11 raids across multiple cities (including three in Islamabad and three in Faisalabad), and interrogated 37 individuals before tracing the suspect through digital footprints and cellular data.”
The suspect has been identified as Umar Hayat. According to IG Nasir, he had been trying to maintain contact with Sana Yousaf, but she persistently rejected him, leading him to devise a plan to kill her. The IG revealed that on May 29 (Sana’s birthday), he spent 7-8 hours trying to meet her but failed. On June 2, he again tried for 8-10 hours before executing his plan. He went to her home where he shot her before fleeing the scene.
IG Nasir also noted that the suspect took Sana’s iPhone during the incident. The phone, along with the weapon used in the crime, has been recovered from his possession.
Police described the suspect as belonging to a lower-middle-class family, with a father who was a retired grade-16 government officer. The unemployed matriculate allegedly earned through Instagram promotions.

The First Information Report (FIR) registered in Sana Yousaf’s murder case contains critical details about the incident. According to the FIR lodged on the complaint of the slain girl’s mother, Ms Farzana Yousaf, the shooting occurred around 5 PM, and the suspect(s) fled immediately after the attack. Authorities have classified the case under serious criminal charges, with forensic teams collecting ballistic and digital evidence.
According to the FIR, the victim sustained two gunshot wounds, and for further investigation, footage from her neighbourhood is being analysed. Neighbours reported hearing gunshots but saw no fleeing suspects.
