At least eleven people have died and many others injured in recent rain-related incidents across Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), as heavy pre-monsoon downpours, thunderstorms, and hailstorms wreak havoc in both provinces.
According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of KP, eight fatalities and twenty-one injuries were reported, with two of the deceased being women. The worst-hit districts included Swabi, Peshawar, Shangla, Swat, and Haripur, where strong winds partially damaged 16 houses in Peshawar alone.
In Punjab, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority confirmed three deaths and twenty-five injuries. Two victims died due to lightning strikes in Mianwali and Attock, while another was killed in a building collapse in Multan. Rescue services reported that severe winds and storms caused widespread incidents, leaving multiple injured.
Authorities in both provinces have urged citizens to take precautionary measures as pre-monsoon rains are expected to continue until tomorrow. Emergency services remain on high alert, with relief operations underway in affected areas.
Meanwhile, Punjab’s Emergency Services Department revealed that Saturday’s storms led to 11 deaths and 153 injuries in 221 incidents across the province, with 98 hospitalized and 43 receiving on-site medical aid.
Weather forecasts predict hot and dry conditions in most regions, though Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, KP, Islamabad, Pothohar, and parts of Balochistan may experience thunderstorms, gusty winds, and isolated heavy rainfall tonight.
