Heavy rainfall in the upper districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa like Upper Dir and Kohistan, have led to droughts and caused widespread damage in the area.
According to details, flooding in canals and Kohistan River have swept away bridges, roads, houses and field. However, a child also died due to these floods. Heavy rainfall in popular tourist places of Kohistan, including Jahaz Banda, Lamoti, Badgwai and the Kumrat Valley became the reason of flash floods and severely affected their infrastructure. Three important bridges are also washed away cutting off the land connectivity of several villages.
Private TV channel Express News reported that Kumrat Road have been severely damaged at multiple points. Many tourist are stranded and there is a long queue of vehicles in the area. Flood water has also entered the Patrak bazar of Upper Dir, where water entered the houses and shops. Many people have reported significant financial loss during this rain.
Several electricity poles have been washed away in the river after which electricity system has completely collapsed in the area. According to local people crops and fruit orchards have also been damaged extensively. It will not only effect the local economy but can also lead to food shortage in the coming months.
Rescue and local administration have started relief operations but access to affected areas has became difficult which is causing delay in their work.
Residents have urged the government to launch relief operations, restore infrastructure and provide financial aid to affected families.
