Matta police arrested gang behind transformer thefts in Swat

Gang stole 11 transformers, left areas powerless; truck, bike, and tools seized

The Matta police claimed on Monday to have arrested a gang involved in the theft of electric transformers in the Matta tehsil of Swat district.

The gang was active in various areas of Swat, leaving neighborhoods in darkness after dismantling electric transformers and stealing valuable components. Speaking to journalists during a press conference at the Matta police station, SP Upper Swat Shawkat Khan said that five suspects involved in the theft of 11 transformers had been arrested. The police recovered approximately 145 kilograms of copper wire and other valuable items from them. He further stated that a specific pickup truck and motorcycle used by the thieves during the nighttime thefts had also been recovered. The police also recovered tools such as wrenches, gloves, and additional copper wire from the suspects.

The suspects were identified as Akber Zaib, Sabdur Ali, Kaki, Ali Akbar, Irfan, and Wahid Ullah Khan, all residents of the hilly Shawar area in Matta.

He added that it was a major challenge for the police to apprehend the suspects, but after significant effort, they were successfully arrested.

DSP Matta Bakht Zada Khan, SHO Chuprial Muhammad Zaib Khan, SHO Kalakot Javid Iqbal, Investigation In-charge Matta Dawar Khan, Matta Bazar President Muhammad Zubair Khan, Malak Ahmad Khan Torabi, and others were present on the occasion.
