Youth urges to acquire digital tools and use social media for academic purposes

Speakers at a seminar in Bisham urged the tehsil private and government colleges students to use digital tools, and social media applications for academic purposes rather than spending precious time in unethical activities on the mobile.

The district administration organised an awareness seminar about Social Media in collaboration with the district youth affairs at the government higher secondary school, Butyal Bisham on Friday.

The students of private and government colleges participated in the seminar, while officials from the Bisham tehsil administration, district youth officer Haider Ali Khan, principal of GHSS Butyal Shahid Ahmad Khan, Senior teacher Mohammad Qasim Khan, and Radio Broadcaster Irfan Hussain Ali, as well as guest speakers, also addressed the Seminar.

The speakers said working on the students’ social behavior was essential while teaching them in schools, and colleges as today’s children were rising without being informed about their rich cultural values.

Zulfiqar Khan, an activist with vast experience in the social sector, said that in the past, there were Hujras in villages where the children were taught about cultural values and used to learn from the elders, but after the end of that era, the social behavior of the youth was deteriorating.

He stressed the students to avoid discriminating their fellows for ethnicity, color, height and look and always respect your fellows, neighbors and every human you come across because it indicates that how you are social.

Mohammad Ali Shah, an educationist and PHD aspirant said rather than using social media applications, online games, students, youth need to install applications for learning as there were hundreds of applications, websites that offered free of cost lectures, academic information and what you need for your study.

He said there were platforms offering free lecturers, articles about academic topics which help the students in their studies and equipping people with knowledge.

Dawn’s journalist, Umar Bacha also shed light about his experience of field reporting about Social media applications, online games which caused human and financial losses of people in different areas.

He urged the students to avoid performing dangerous stunts for Tiktok videos as he reported about the incidents where teenagers lost their lives while making videos for Tiktok.

He suggested the students to use the digital platforms for consuming credible information but with critical thinking as fake news mislead the audience nowadays.

Shahid Ahmad Khan, principal GHSS Butyal asked the students to participate in such fruitful seminars which were rarely organised in the areas for youth which indeed need of the hour to arrange in every union council, school and colleges to promote digital skills and create awareness among the emerging youth.

Haider Ali, district youth officer informed the participants about the benefits of technology and its need in daily life and urged them to implement what they learned in the session from speakers, guests.

The participants were given certificates and the speakers with honorary shields on the occasion.
