SHANGLA: Shangla police on Sunday claimed to have arrested two members of a car-lifters’ gang, who were also wanted in murder cases lodged with police stations of Islamabad and Gilgit-Baltistan.
SHO Ajmal Khan told The Northern Post that the police arrested two members of the gang during a routine check at Dandai checkpost and registered cases against them.
He said the accused were identified through Criminal Record Verification System (CRVS). Following their arrest, the police contacted Gohar Abad police station in Diamer district, and Islamabad police as they were wanted to them in murder cases.
The SHO said apart from several cases of car lifting, the accused were wanted to Gohar Abad police in murder of a cab driver, Anayatullah, who was killed when he put up resistance to the car snatchers in 2016. The slain cab driver hailed from Bisham, Shangla.
The police official added that the accused were also wanted to Islamabad police for killing a young boy of Jijal area of Kohistan.
Meanwhile, Bisham police officials told The Northern Post that they had recovered a car which was stolen from the area by the same gang. SDPO Mohammad Zaman said the gang was notorious for car lifting.
