Sonakshi Sinha ties the knot with Zaheer Iqbal in her private Bandra apartment on Sunday.
Sonakshi, 37, and Zaheer, 35, shared the news on Sunday and said, “We are now man and wife” after their low-key civil wedding in the presence of some co-stars and family members.
Both stars dated for seven years but kept it secret and broke the news of their marriage on their social media. They shared their picture in a joint post on Instagram and wrote,
“On this very day, seven years back (23.06.2017), in each other’s eyes, we saw love in its purest form and decided to hold on to it. Today, that love has guided us through all the challenges and triumphs… leading up to this moment… where, with the blessings of both our families and both our gods… we are now man and wife. Here’s to love, hope, and all the beautiful things with each other from now until forever.”
Sonakshi Sinha wore a white vintage Chikankari saree from her mother’s closet. She completed her traditional look with gajra in a sleek bun and matching jewellery. At the same time, Zaheer twined with her in a white embroidered kurta-pajama.
The couple never confirmed their relationship publically, but they have attended many events and social gatherings together. They have also shared their pictures on social media, attended each other’s birthday parties and award-winnings, and participated in scuba dives on holidays. They have also collaborated on a music video for the song “Blockbuster” and a comedy-drama “Double XL”.
They didn’t invite many people on their wedding day. Just a few co-stars of “Heramandi” and “Double XL” and their family members attended the wedding event at the bride’s apartment.
Later, the newlywed couple arranged the reception and invited all friends and co-superstars to a restaurant in Dadar. For the reception, Sonakshi opted for a red Banarasi silk saree with a heavily woven golden zari border. Zaheer wore a white open jacket with a white shirt and matching pants.
The reception was attended by film personalities including Salman Khan, Bela Segal, Ali Abbas Zafar, Gulshan Devaiah, Reema Kagti, Qureshi, Saqib Saleem, Mudassar Aziz, Siddharth Roy Kapur, Anil Kapoor, Chunky Pandey, Aanand L Rai, Kajol, Saira Banu, Sanjeeda Shaikh, Richa Chadha, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Ali Fazal, Siddharth Kak, Yo Yo Honey Singh, Padmini Kolhapure, Raveena Tandon, Anees Bazmee, Vidya Balan, and Tabu.
When their wedding news was at a run, there were also rumours that Sonakshi’s father, Shatrughan Sinha, was not happy with their marriage. But later, the rumour was cleared when her father was seen posing happily in wedding pictures. He also talked to the media, which further clarified the rumour while talking to media:
“Every father waits for this moment when his daughter is given to her chosen groom. My daughter looks most happy with Zaheer. Unki jodi salamat rahe (May their union stay strong forever).”
Zaheer Iqbal is also an actor like Sonakshi and a close friend of Salman Khan. His father is a jeweller and also a businessman.
