The recent wave of violence in Kurram has cast a shadow over peace efforts. A member of the Grand Jirga, a tribal council, expressed concerns about the Bagan attack’s effect on the recently signed peace agreement. Jirga representatives pointed out the stress caused by road closures and ongoing attacks. Despite the unrest, the district administration reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace.
The Grand Jirga had recently negotiated a peace agreement in Lower Kurram. The agreement included provisions like compensating damages, surrendering heavy weaponry, removing unauthorized checkpoints, and preventing the tribal conflict from turning religious.
