SHANGLA: The residents of Karora and its outskirts blocked the Bisham-Swat Road at Kana Chowk on Monday to protest provision of ‘police protocol’ to a sub-inspector allegedly involved in a custodial death.

The protesters chanted slogans against the police, particularly those responsible for the custodial death of Syed Akbar Shah, who had died in the lockup of Karora police station a month ago.

Former senator Maulana Rahat Hussain, former Alpuri nazim Mohammad Tahir, former candidate Sher Alam Khan, and others led the protest.

The protest leaders said they were anticipating justice for the victim’s family, but ironically the police were providing VIP protocol to the accused.
They said the police should make public the findings of the inquiry report into Akbar Shah’s death, proceed against Sub-Inspector Nasib Shah beyond mere registration of FIR.

Sub-divisional police officer Habib Shah attempted to hold negotiations with the enraged protesters, but they asked for the district police officer to visit them and promise that such protocol won’t be provided to the accused sub-inspector in future.
