Mai Dhai features on Times Square billboard

Pakistani classical singer Mai Dhai from Tharparkar was recently featured on the iconic Times Square billboard in New York City.
Times Square, a digital advertising billboard located in the most trafficked area of New York City, is famous for its advertising of renowned celebrities and brands.
Mai Dhai belongs to the Manganhar Muslim Community of Tharparkar. Tharparkar is a desert situated in Sindh and known for its cultural diversity and musical heritage. The Manganhar community is a famous community of singers not only in Pakistan but also in Rajhastan, India. Both areas share the same border and have similar cultural heritages.
Spotify featured the Mai Dhai poster and shared its picture on its social media with the caption, “A voice like that of the cuckoo reaches Times Square directly. Listen to Mai Dhai on the #EQUALPAKISTAN playlist.”
Mai Dhai used to perform in Pakistani musical festivals, but her fame skyrocketed in 2016 when she appeared in Coke Studio Season 8. She debuted with famous artists like Atif Aslam in “Kadi Aao Ni” and Karam Abbas in “Aankhaṛli Phaṛookai”.
Besides Dhai, Talal Quereshi has also made it to Times Square Billboard in New York City through Spotify. Spotify has promoted his album “Turbo”. This album is a seamless fusion of traditional Pakistani music with modern electronic sounds, and it includes songs such as “Peechay Hut,” “Hico,” “Faltu Pyar,” and “Paisa.”
