Kurram deputy commissioner injured in firing on convoy of area’s senior officials

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's government spokesperson confirmed the attack on officials, however the DC said to be out of danger

Senior officials in Kurram district, including Deputy Commissioner Javedullah Mehsud, were ambushed and injured by unknown assailants while traveling through the Bagan area. This incident occurred after a brief period of peace following sectarian clashes in the region. According to Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif, spokesperson for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, the deputy commissioner’s convoy was attacked while making arrangements for a public transport convoy.

Fortunately, the deputy commissioner is out of danger and was initially taken to a nearby hospital. Plans are to transfer him to a hospital in Peshawar by helicopter for further treatment. The government spokesperson assured that the incident would be thoroughly investigated, and those responsible would face exemplary punishment.

This attack is a concerning development, given the recent history of sectarian violence in the region. In November 2024, a devastating attack on a Shia Muslim convoy in Kurram district resulted in the loss of 54 lives and injured 86 others. The incident sparked widespread protests and condemnation from domestic and international leaders.
