KMU’s Advanced Centre for Genomic Technologies Concludes Workshop on Molecular Diagnostics of Rare Genetic Disorders
The Advanced Center for Genomic Technologies (ACGT) at Khyber Medical University (KMU) successfully concluded a three-day workshop titled “Molecular Diagnostics of Rare Human Genetic Disorders: A Systematic Approach,” held from February 10 to 12. The workshop served as a vital platform for knowledge-sharing on cutting-edge molecular diagnostic techniques, emphasizing the latest advancements and practical applications in genetic testing.
Vice Chancellor KMU, Prof. Dr. Zia Ul Haq distributed certificates among participants and organizers during the closing ceremony. The event was also attended by Prof. Dr. Yasar Yousafzai, Director Public Health Reference Lab KP, Prof. Dr. Inayat Shah, and Incharge ACGT, Dr. Muhammad Zakria.
The hands-on training brought together PhD doctors, clinicians, and MPhil and PhD scholars from KMU, the University of Peshawar, RMI, Kohat University, Bannu University, and IBGE. The program was designed to enhance participants’ expertise in molecular diagnostics, covering key topics such as Sanger sequencing, next-generation sequencing, and pathogenic mutation screening. Through interactive sessions and practical exercises, attendees gained valuable insights into human genome organization, inheritance patterns, and the clinical applications of genetic testing for rare diseases.
As a leading genomic sequencing facility, ACGT represents Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) at the national level in genomic research. By hosting such training initiatives, KMU continues to strengthen local capacity in molecular diagnostics and genomics. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zia Ul Haq emphasized the importance of continuous learning and innovation in public health and research. “We remain committed to empowering our scientists and healthcare professionals, ensuring that KP leads the way in advancing genomic technologies across Pakistan,” he stated.
