Swat: Experts here on Monday said that media could play a key role in social accountability by providing citizens with exact information for engagement with government.
They were speaking at a one-day training session on ‘social accountability’. The session was organised by Media Matters for Democracy in Swat Press Club. Journalists from Swat and Shangla attended the event.

The speakers said that public journalism was on the rise in the world. “Media can play a vital role in social accountability by disseminating information about social issues, schemes and projects,” said Mohammad Arsalan a trainer.
He said that media was the main source of information as well as a link between the government and citizens.
Zafar Nizmani, another resource person, said that the journalists must find various angles of human interest themes in their stories. “Every social issue has a link in one way or another with finances or budget and journalists must address that link in their stories,” he added
