SHANGLA: Local Jirga of Bisham tehsil here on Wednesday have demanded of the government to ensure safety of local journalists and take legal action against culprits behind the assassination attempt of local young journalist.
A jirga which was called by local tribes regarding assassination attempt on local journalist in Bisham held at Bisham model school, where elders from different local tribes participated.
Speakers at the Jirga demanded early justice to the local journalist Umar Bacha, who had beaten up by goons at his office and also attempted to kill the journalist with pistol on Karakoram highway main market.
Zahid Khan, a local elder said that it was not for the first time hired men who belonged to Maira beaten up local journalist but it has become a routine that a particular goons group who take amount from political people for beating up local people and then flee from the scene.
“Although we have videos of pistol SHO took from the accused hands, he was refusing of taking pistol from the goons. Even not included the section 324 of assassination attempt in the FIR,” He said.
Naveed Khan, a PHD scholar said a person who always tried to highlight local issues and in recent hospital case occurred with his family was not his personal matter but he highlighted the inefficiency of hospital instead of appreciating such people how political people dare to beaten up them.
He said, they need a sincere and dutiful medical superintendent for the tehsil headquarters hospital Bisham not goon who not only use abusive language with patients and injured attendants but also send goons for assassination of journalists for stopping them from writing for poor masses.
Ijaz Kamal, a former tehsil councilor, Butyal, said media is independent and local journalist work for the welfare of the area they have not personal enmity with anyone.
He said, they have severally lodged complaints against the hospital MS who always use abusive language with local people and staff too but administration has yet not taken any action.
Mustafa Kamal, an elder said who ever is behind the assassination attack of their young and only journalist Umar Bacha should be dealt with law and they would be at his back any time.
He said, he never heard any wrong from the journalist who is belong to this soil and always seen active in highlighting core issues through his different platforms.
Muhammad Yaar Khan, local leader and former candidate PK-23 announced that he would never support his cousins who threatened journalist and allegedly attempt of assassination on journalist, however, he claimed that local station house officer was fifty per cent involved in the attack case as the journalist had reported a story in Dawn against the police about Hashish and drug peddlers.
He said, if his brother acted like and threatened any human being he would never support him because it was not politics to show power by sending goons for beating up people.
The journalist had beaten up in his office on Tuesday while locking the office door and later upon resistance the goons tried to open fire on the journalist but survived and the journalist was referred to Swat due to head injuries, however he was out of threat.
