Four coal miners died in a coalmine incident in the Kurram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, belonging to Shangla district.
Four coal miners were brought to their native towns in Shangla on Monday morning and laid to rest at their ancestral graveyard, who died in a mine incident at district Kurram of Kohat division.
The relatives of the deceased miners told TNP that a portion of one of the coalmines of Speen Ghar coal mine company had collapsed when mine workers were cutting the coal inside the mine, trapping the miners inside it.
They said the rescue operation for their recovery continued the whole day on Sunday as three of them were retrieved late at night Sunday and then brought to Shangla, their native towns, Kuz Kana, Dehrai Zara, and Ganshal area of Kana tehsil.
The deceased were identified as Jehan Bacha of Zara Dehrai, Sahib Gul of Kaduna Kuz Kana, Muhammad Ayub, and Naeemullah Khan of Ganshal Olandar area of Kana tehsil.
The deceased bodies were brought to their native towns on Monday and later buried in their ancestral graveyard, and two of the miners were cousins.
Abid Yar, president of the Shangla Coalmine Workers Association, told TNP that it was the sixth incident in which Shangla miners died and were injured.
He said that despite their continuous protests and campaigns, neither the authorities nor companies accepted their demands of ensuring safety and protection at the work sites of coal mines, which was causing huge human loss of workers.
