FDRD Condemns Violent Threats Against Senior Journalist Munizae Jahangir

The Forum for Democracy and Rights Development (FDRD) strongly condemns the violent threats and intimidation directed at Munizae Jahangir

The Forum for Digital Rights and Democracy (FDRD) strongly condemns the violent threats and intimidation directed at senior journalist and co-chairperson of HRCP, Ms Munizae Jahangir. These blatant attacks not only target press freedom, but also the constitutionally protected individual right to freedom of expression, and a shameful attempt to silence independent voices that hold power to account.

Munizae Jahangir, widely respected in the media, an inspiration to many young female journalists, and known for her unwavering commitment to truth and justice, has been subjected to targeted harassment and threats aimed at undermining her professional integrity and personal safety. These threats reflect a growing pattern of hostility towards journalists who dare to raise voices on critical matters, especially those concerning religion and blasphemy.

The FDRD holds that these silencing attempts through intimidation and violence are unacceptable and must be condemned unequivocally. The Forum also believes that the safety of journalists is not just an individual concern but a broader issue of protecting democratic values, human rights, and the public’s right to information.

We call upon the authorities to take immediate and effective action to investigate these threats and hold those responsible accountable. Furthermore, we urge the government and civil society to work together to create an environment where journalists and individuals can exercise their right to free speech and press freedom without fear.

FDRD stands in full solidarity with Munizae Jahangir and all those facing threats for speaking truth to power and reaffirm our commitment to defending freedom of expression and press freedom.
