Crackdown launches in Shangla against suppliers, vendors selling substandard food items

Following the tragic deaths of three children who allegedly consumed contaminated snacks.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Fawad Khan has taken swift action against suppliers and vendors selling substandard food items in Shangla, following the tragic deaths of three children who allegedly consumed contaminated snacks. As part of this crackdown, all No Objection Certificates (NOCs) issued to suppliers have been cancelled.

Khan emphasized that, although the District Administration lacks the authority to ban licensed food products, they prioritize public well-being and closely monitor these products. If a snack is suspected to be substandard, a ban may be imposed. To promote consumer safety, a public awareness campaign, “Check Expiry Date, Protect Your Fate,” has been launched.

Hundreds of expired items have been confiscated and destroyed, with the process documented through videos to raise public awareness. Khan stressed that consumers must develop the habit of checking expiry dates before purchasing products, including food, cosmetics, and essentials.

A ban has been imposed under section 144 across the district on the sale and supply of locally produced snacks and expired items. Khan clarified that NOCs circulating on social media were issued by the former deputy commissioner and have been cancelled, noting that the Halal Foods Authority is responsible for issuing licenses to local food producers, mostly located in Swat and adjacent areas.
