Chilly weather to welcome new year in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

PDMA has directed all district administrations to take pre-emptive measures to avoid any untoward incidents due to rain and snowfall.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has predicted rain with thunderstorms and heavy snowfall in the upper districts of the province during the first week of January.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, PDMA stated that the spell of rain and snowfall is expected to continue from January 1 to January 6, the new year 2025.

According to the statement, intermittent rain with thunderstorms and heavy snowfall over the mountains is expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Malakand, Buner, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Waziristan, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Bannu, Karak, and Kohat from January 1 to January 5.

PDMA has directed all district administrations to take pre-emptive measures to avoid any untoward incidents due to rain and snowfall.

The authority has also instructed the district administrations to ensure the availability of heavy machinery and other equipment to deal with any emergencies.

People have been advised to stay away from power lines, dilapidated buildings, and billboards during the rains. Farmers have been directed to plan their activities according to the weather forecast.

PDMA has also directed tourists and local populations in sensitive areas to take precautionary measures to stay informed about the weather conditions.

The authority has warned that the rain and snowfall may lead to landslides and flooding in some areas, and people should be prepared to face any emergencies.
