SHANGLA: Residents of Maira area of Bisham on Wednesday blocked the Karakoram Highway, demanding immediate postmortem on the body of a teenage boy, which was recovered from the Indus River about six months after he went missing.
The protesters, including the relatives of the victim, placed the body on the KKH, demanding arrest of the accused, who had been nominated in the FIR by the victim’s father.
They also chanted slogans against the doctors of the tehsil headquarters hospital, Bisham, for not conducting postmortem on the body.
The protesters said the boy, Bilal, was thrown into the Indus and his body recovered from there after six months.
However, despite lodging FIR in the Dandai police station, the accused had not been arrested yet.
The protesters said they did not know why the innocent boy was killed.
The boy’s relatives alleged that when they took the body to the hospital the doctors refused to conduct autopsy because the body was old. They said the doctors asked them to shift the body to Peshawar for postmortem.
Former MPA Mohammad Rashad Khan and Alpuri tehsil nazim Mohammad Tahir, who were present on the occasion, also demanded arrest of the accused nominated in the case.
The road remained blocked for about three hours, causing hardships to commuters.
Meanwhile, Bisham assistant commissioner Wajid Ali along with police officials reached the spot and held talks with the protesters to end the protest, asking the hospital staff to conduct the postmortem immediately.
The AC Bisham also assured the boy’s relatives about arrest of the accused.
Afterwards, the protesters offered the funeral on the road and then went to the hospital along with the assistant commissioner for having the postmortem conducted.
