The residents of Bisham city and its outskirts have demanded of the government to take action against the contractor for leaving a water supply scheme incomplete.
Talking to reporters the other day, they said the contractor after completing only 30 per cent work on the Rs17 million worth water scheme approved eight years ago for the entire Bisham city, had abandoned the work.
They said the scheme was meant to permanently resolve the longstanding water shortage issue of the city.
“We held meetings with the administration officials and the local MPAs many times, urging them to ensure early completion of the scheme as we have been facing severe water shortage for long, but to no avail,” Khurshid Ahmed, a local elder, deplored.
Local Israr Ahmed said initially the contractor insisted that the project was delayed due to installation of a transformer, however, five years had passed since the installation of the transformer, but further work on the scheme could not be done.
Meanwhile, a young girl drowned in the Indus River in Batkot area of Bisham on Sunday.
Police said Zakira Bibi was taking bath along with her cousins in the river when she was swept away by water.
Also, assistant commissioner, Bisham, Khuram Rehman closed illegal cattle markets the other day.
He asked the cattle traders to avoid selling sacrificial animals in the bazaars and out of the government cattle market.
