SHANGLA: Residents of Daulat Kallay and Dehrai protested unavailability of anti-rabies vaccine in the district headquarters hospital here on Saturday after seven people injured by stray dogs had to return without treatment.
Police official said that seven people who were bitten by stray dogs were brought to the DHQ hospital, Alpuri, but the doctors told them that there was no anti-rabies vaccine.
Afterwards, the residents of Dehrai and Daulat Kallay gathered in Alpuri Chowk and staged a protest demonstration, shouting slogans against the health department for its failure to ensure availability of the vaccine in the district’s main hospital.
The protesters also demanded of the authorities concerned to kill stray dogs in their areas.
Later, assistant commissioner revenue, Alpuri, Azhar Zahoor held negotiations with the protesters and assured them that he would ask the TMA to kill stray dogs and the health department to ensure availability of the vaccine in all hospitals of the district.
