SHANGLA: Residents of Kotkay Alpuri here on Friday complained about shortage of teaching staff in schools, lack of cleanliness in Kotkay bazaar and open sale and use of drugs in the area.
They were speaking at an open kutcheri organised by the district administration. Deputy commissioner Fayaz Sherpao, officials of the relevant departments, councillors and local people attended the event.
Shahid Khan, a resident, said that most schools of the area had been facing staff shortage, which was hampering education of the students. He said that they had informed local heads of the education department about shortage of teachers in the local boys and girls schools, but to no avail.
Mohammad Zaman urged the authorities concerned to ensure cleanliness in Kotkay bazaar as garbage could be seen dumped there. He said that the TMA workers had been kept restricted to Alpuri, while no arrangements were made for ensuring cleanliness in rest of the bazaars.
Zahir Shah, another resident, said that drugs were being sold openly in the area and the police did not take action against the peddlers. He demanded of the police to conduct raids and make the area free of drugs.
The people also complained about inflated power bills, saying that Pesco had been sending them bills without carrying out meter reading in the area.
The DC directed the officers of the relevant departments to address the issues raised by the people as soon as possible and submit report to him. He also sought people’s support in campaigns against polio and polythene bags.
