Lok Mela 2025 kicks off in Islamabad

The heart of the capital came alive yesterday Friday, November 7 at 4 PM as the 10 day Lok Mela 2025 officially began. This year’s event marks the Golden Jubilee of Lok Virsa, celebrating 50 years of promoting Pakistan’s cultural heritage.the hear t of capital what
National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage (Lok Virsa) organized under the National Heritage and Culture Division, the 10-day festival will showcase the diverse cultural traditions, crafts, music, and cuisine of Pakistan. Artisans, performers, and cultural enthusiasts from across the country will gather to represent regional identities.
Stalls and pavilions will highlight all provinces, including Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, presenting folk music, traditional dance, handicraft demonstrations, and traditional cuisine. The festival theme, “Yakjehti k Rang, Lok Virsa k Sang,” aims to promote national unity and cultural appreciation.
Also, Revived traditional attractions such as Folk Theatre and Putli Tamasha will be featured, along with performances by renowned Sufi and folk artists. Visitors will be able to enjoy traditional foods like Balochi Sajji and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s special tea, while exploring handicrafts such as pottery, leatherwork, and stone carving. An international pavilion featuring delegates from 12 countries will also be part of the event.
Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture Division, Aurangzeb Khan Khichi, congratulated Lok Virsa on its 50-year milestone, stating that Lok Virsa has played a key role in preserving cultural identity. He said the Golden Jubilee edition symbolizes unity and urged the youth to take part in strengthening cultural bonds.
