Khyber Pakhtunkhwa plans to shut down several public university campuses

Salaries and Pensions Unpaid as Funding Dries Up; Student Transfers and Staff Layoffs Underway

The government universities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are facing severe financial crises, due to which five public university campuses of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are preparing for their closure. There are high chances of the approval of closing these campuses.

According to sources, it is no longer possible to pay salaries, pensions and other operational charges due to severe shortage of funds. However, the opening of new campuses was ineffective and the recommendation of closing them have reached in its final stage.
According to the reports, along with the preparations of closing these five universities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the list of students have also been summoned, who are studying in different district universities including Peshawar, so that they can be transferred in other central universities.
Sources have also told that the recommendation has also been accepted to close some universities due to lack of admissions. At the administrative level, steps are being taken to reduce the expenses and relieve the employees recruited on political grounds.
Educational experts have warned that if government did not take immediate actions to provide financial support to the universities then the higher education system will be in a big crises. It should be remembered that 5 university campuses of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are being prepared to close due to the financial crisis, which is an indication of the decline in the academic field.
