Punjab makes board exams mandatory for Class 5 and 8

PECTA to conduct centralized assessments from 2026, aiming to ensure uniform evaluation, transparency, and better preparation for higher classes

Punjab Education Curriculum Training and Assessment Authority (PECTA) has announced that now all governemnt and private schools of Punjab will have 5th and 8th class final exams under board system.

The purpose of this step is to ensure equal opportunity, transparency and quality of education.

According to government schedule, these exams will be registered from 3 to 15 November 2025.

5th class exams will start from 9th Feb 2026, however 8th class exams will start from 16th Feb 2026.

The result of both classes will be announced on 1st April 2026.

The important changes made are as follow:

  • The responsibilty of exams will be on PECTA instead of individual schools.
  • The purpose of this step is to ensure equal oppertunity, transparency and quality of education.
  • This decision is the part of the policy of Province which aim to improve  educational outcomes and the quality of assessments.

According to a representative, this step will maintain an equal quality of education and it will also help students to get prepared for higher classes

Education experts has welcomed this reform and said that the system based on board will reduce the difference in education and it will also make stronger the accountability of government and private schools.
