Death toll from cloudburst floods in KP surpasses 300

In the last 48 hours, 307 people have died, and 23 have been injured in various incidents related to the severe weather.

The death toll from flash floods caused by a cloudburst in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has exceeded 307 as of Saturday.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has released an initial report detailing the loss of life and property across various districts in the province due to the rains and flash floods.

In the last 48 hours, 307 people have died, and 23 have been injured in various incidents related to the severe weather. The casualties include 279 men, 15 women, and 13 children. Among the injured, there are 17 men, 4 women, and 2 children.

Floods Report PDMA

As of now, 74 houses have been damaged as a result of the floods, with 63 partially destroyed and 11 destroyed. In the most affected district of Buner, a total of 184 people have been displaced.

The accidents have occurred in several districts, including Buner, Shangla, Swat, Bajaur, Torghar, Mansehra, and Battagram. The districts most severely impacted by the heavy rains and floods are Buner, Bajaur, and Battagram.

The current series of heavy rains is expected to continue intermittently until August 21. Following directives from the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, relief funds have been allocated for the districts affected by the floods. Relevant institutions have been instructed to intensify relief efforts.

PDMA relief teams and district administrations are maintaining full communication to monitor the situation. PDMA has previously sent letters to all district administrations urging them to take preventive measures in light of the weather conditions.

Moreover, PDMA has directed an increase in relief activities across all affected districts to provide immediate assistance to the victims. All relevant institutions have been tasked with utilising resources to restore closed highways and access roads at tourist destinations.
